Frank is right about the clutch. You may be able to bend the actual lever, but in doing so you'll alter how much travel you have, possibly causing problems in fully engaging the clutch. The closer your hand is to the pivot point, the less you have to open it and the less it will travel, but it will get harder to pull because you've got less leverage. Play around with your hand position to find what works best.
As far as the jet goes, the number refers to the size of the opening. Larger number = larger opening = more gas flow = less backfire, lower temperature, worse mileage, etc.... Air filter, muffler, and carb all work together so if you change one, you may need to change others to keep all in balance (I went to a Harley muffler with punched baffles and had to rejet to compensate for loss of back pressure in the system). But the Savage is significantly "detuned" (made less efficinet to improve its EPA stats) at the factory, so you can probably rejet up a couple sizes without any problems. If you go too big, you'll start fouling plugs and drowning out, but I doubt you'll cause any "damage" per se.
